Domain Name Challenge

Before you start your new business here is a Domain Name Challenge.

Domain Name Challenge

When you set out to start a new enterprise, give yourself plenty of time for quiet consideration. You want to get it right from the very start, as near as possible anyway.

What do I mean by that?

If you choose the right Domain Name it will become your best asset; it will also be your brand, so the domain name challenge is supremely important to the future success of your company.

When you sit down with your business colleagues to brainstorm a domain name, consider how you want your brand to be perceived by the customers you are hoping to attract.

First consideration: what domain extension do I need for my business?

The number one without any doubt is a dot com. The public at large still think a business with an internet address must be a dot com. Most surveys show that the great majority of new extensions that have come to the market have passed the man-on-the-street by.

You also have to take into account that if you want to attract investors to your business; anything other than a dot com and you will lose some credibility.

We all know that finding a good dot com domain name now-a-days has become increasingly difficult.

So, thinking outside the box is more important now than ever.

You really need to become creative; there are always alternatives that will become the brands of tomorrow!

You can use dot orgs, dot nets, country code extensions and the like but ultimately at some point you will kick yourself for not putting more effort into finding the right dot com. You will most like have to pay a premium to get your desired domain name but it will seem cheap as your business flourishes.

If you are in the position financially, it is always a good idea to register the secondary domain names (.net – .org etc.) as well to protect your brand.

When you are brainstorming names for your business keep in mind, the radio test:

Short + Memorable + Easy to spell = Valuable. It’s that easy!

If you can manage to include meaningful keywords into the domain name so much the better.

A few points worth considering when choosing keywords for your domain name; make sure they will be relevant in the years to come. You don’t want keywords that will hinder you in the future.

Of course if you choose an invented word for your domain name and you have the funds to promote it, maybe you will become the next, and the like, being original is great for creating a top brand.

There are so many elements that go into making a great brand, but with enough thought and consideration it can still be done.

Finding a domain name that is easy to remember, is pleasant to the ears and creates some emotional empathy will be the difference to being a household name or swirling around in cyberspace for eternity.

You also have to take into consideration, if you don’t invest in a great domain name; why would your potential customers think you would provide great products or services.

Remember: The best domain name will reinforce your brand and the buying public’s awareness of your business.
